Social media has scattered blog communities and pretty much killed engagement in blog. They’ve changed immensely over the last ten years. Today though, a blog isn’t just a section of your website—it’s a tool for connection, inspiration and growth. This post is for anyone who’s ever wondered if they need a blog and how to make it work without it becoming overwhelming or adding to an already very saturated online world.

We’ll dive into how blogging can help you build trust, share solutions, and create a steady flow of organic traffic to your site—all while making your content strategy easier and more intentional.

How to Add a Blog to Your Website That Is Useful and Intentional

Adding a blog to your website is a great way to enhance your online presence, connect with your target audience, and share valuable content. It’s a really great little home for work that you can share with others to demonstrate, teach and build connections. As creatives, writing is also a very inspirational form of expression and find its really well suited for certain types of content.

And if you’re wondering, does this make me a blogger, and will I spend a substantial amount of time writing? The answer is no—unless you want it to!

Whether you’re using a WordPress website or not, adding to an an existing site or building a new website, this little post will help you curate a useful and intentional blog that can help others, further build on your brand identity and potentially save you time while bringing in organic traffic from search results. That’s right. A well written and intentional blog can actually help you save time in your business and drive more traffic to your site because you’re providing value.

Why Add a Blog to Your Website?

A blog is more than just a section of your site—it really is a powerful tool with a marketing strategy behind it to share your industry insights, resources, boost your website’s visibility on search engines and build customer trust. By regularly publishing new blog posts that offer truly relevant content and useful and good information, you can find your own way to possibility and connection. Simply put, a blog can improve audience engagement, increase brand awareness and still be something worthwhile. Think of each post as a solution, an answer that someone is looking for – intensely related to your business.

And most are surprised to learn, it can also help you save time in your business as well.

While it’s important to carve out time each week to write posts—something I do on a regular basis by dedicating a specific block of time to my own blog—this practice is incredibly valuable for building your brand’s tone, consistency, and content strategy. Setting aside time to reflect on what you want to share with your blog readers naturally encourages you to consider the content you’ll share in other spaces, like your newsletter or social media. It serves as an internal thought checker, referenced back to the message you want to send though. Once you establish this message, this process becomes second nature, helping you refine your delivery and stay focused on sharing cohesive, meaningful content across all platforms.

Let’s get into the ways in which you can add a blog to your website that is useful and intentional for you and your visitors.

How to Add a Worth-Your-Time Blog to Your Website

1. Share Practical Tips and Solutions

Focus on valuable content that addresses common questions or challenges your target audience faces. Before writing anything ask yourself, is this helpful? needed? honest? By offering useful content—such as how-to guides, actionable tips, or curated resources—you establish trust and demonstrate that you genuinely care about others and the information that you’re putting out into the world.

2. Organize Content for Easy Navigation

I’ve spent a lot of time analyzing our blog. What you guys like to read, re-read and how much time you spend on each post. Gone are the days where readers actually read an entire post front to back unless it’s really connecting. While I love writing really long-form content I’m aware that those posts don’t do as well as those that are short and sweet. In additional to that content, a clutter-free, well-organized blog enhances the user experience and helps your visitors quickly find what they need.

Use clear categories, menu links, and a search bar to make your content accessible.

Include summaries at the start of posts so readers can gauge relevance quickly. Sometime we also like to add a table of contents at the beginning with anchor links that when clicked will help you skip right to the part you want.

3. Read And Edit Your Own Posts With Vigour

Regularly reading and rereading your posts is a really effective way to not just keep things updated and current but also help in editing your content and removing unnecessary copy. We’ve all read posts where it’s glaringly obvious that the author has chosen to embellish the amount of keywords in the post by repeating the same thing multiple times. Basically fluff writing and fundamentally against what we believe is the right way to take up space online.

Not only that but Google has already announced that they’re favouring websites that create relevant and honest content, and keyword stuffing – where you’re just forcing keywords into your blog post – is considered a form of black hat SEO and may result in your site getting flagged as spam or disingenuous.

At the time of posting, reread your post multiple times to make sure it’s landing the way you intend it to. Be sure that you understand who visits your blog and whether they’d connect with the post. Don’t be afraid to add your personality and tone to your writing. It’s what will differentiate you from all the others and your visitors will come to expect it from you.

4. Blog Posts As Connectors

Last week we wrote a blog post about internal links and how impactful they can be for the user experience and overall site ranking. Adding relevant links to your blog posts is one of the best ways to not only increase the number of internal links on your website but also give visitors a natural nudge to more content that can help them – whether it’s towards another post, product or service on your site.

Your blog posts can (and should) connect different pages of your site together, and because of their format and usefulness, they’re usually discovered online because someone is searching for a solution to their problem. If your blog post can do that, it’s a win-win.

5. Avoid Using ChatGPT To Write Posts

We’ve been “given” this tool that can essentially replace our need to think through anything. It has made tasks shockingly faster and easier. It’s like having the answer to everything at all times but not knowing how. The disconnect that has happened between where we get our information, taking that information as our own and sharing it back is frightening to me.

It’s like simultaneously knowing everything and nothing. And it’s incredibly obvious when you see it written out.

But we’re not anti ChatGPT. Its helpful in many ways. But when it comes to the place where you’re connecting all the parts of your business in one place, allow yourself the control to curate that. Don’t take away your own voice and replace it with the same one anyone else can use. And if you feel something can be answered well by ChatGPT consider writing a different topic.

In addition to the above, here are some additional tips for you to consider adding to your blog:

  • An author’s sign off note – at the bottom of the each post, add a little section that confirms that the post is written by you and a link to getting in touch.
  • Add a small related reads or links section after the author’s note, guiding your reader to content that is similar, related or a natural continuation for them.
  • Educate your reader with clear explanations, links and resources (if applicable) in an honest and concise way.
  • Establish a weekly writing and posting schedule, making it easier to stay consistent.
  • Repurpose content by sharing your blog post content on social media and your email newsletters, as well as other platforms such as Pinterest for external link building.
