How to Embed Google Calendar into Your WordPress Site: A Step-by-Step Guide
We’re going to create a series of posts in January and February that are task-based, helping you add more functionality and tools to your website easily, and without the help of a web designer! We’re often afraid to do these things alone, which we completely understand, so we’re breaking things down into steps for you starting with embedding a google calendar into your WordPress site!
Embedding a Google Calendar into your WordPress site is a great way to showcase upcoming events, improve user experience, and streamline event management. Whether you’re a business owner promoting community events or an individual sharing a personal calendar, this feature is an excellent way to enhance your online presence. Here’s a simple way to add an embedded calendar to your WordPress website.
Step 1: Open Google Calendar and Adjust Settings
- Log in to your Google Calendar account and navigate to the calendar you want to embed.
- Click the gear icon in the upper right corner and select “Settings.”
- In the “Access permissions for events” section, ensure your calendar is public. This step is crucial for website visitors to view your events calendar.
- Locate the “Integrate calendar” section, click on customize, and adjust your calendar to 1200 wide and 600 height. You can also customize the week starts on, and month view as well as adding or removing a border. Then copy the iframe code under “Embed code.”

Step 2: Add the Calendar to Your WordPress Page
There are different ways to add the Google Calendar to your WordPress site:
Paste the iframe code directly where you want the calendar to appear.
Using the Gutenberg Editor (our preference!):
- Go to your WordPress dashboard and edit the desired page or post.
- Add a “Custom HTML” block by clicking the “+” button and paste the iframe code.
- Preview and see how the size of the calendar fits into your page. It might take a few times where you’re going back into google calendar, adjusting width and height to get it just right. For us, 1200 wide works well.
- Once you’re happy with that, publish the page to ensure the embedded calendar displays correctly.

Step 3: Customize Your Calendar’s Appearance… Using A WordPress Plugin.
While we don’t recommend going overboard with plugins (as they can slow down your site speed), there are a few that if you’re really wanting to customize your calendar completely these are good options. Plugins provide more flexibility and often include built-in customization options without needing to edit code:
- Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Plugin: Allows customization of colors, fonts, and layouts, and supports multiple views like Agenda or List.
- The Events Calendar: A robust solution for integrating and styling calendars on WordPress.
- WP Google Calendar Widget: Offers a user-friendly interface for styling and displaying your calendar.
Optional: Use a WordPress Plugin
If you’re looking for additional options, plugins like Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Plugin or premium features with event aggregators offer a powerful tool for managing Google Calendar events on your site. These plugins often support private calendars, multiple event calendars, and more.
